Shifting Tides

Shifting Tides was an Access 10 exhibition. My piece focused on our local beaches and tides with a sound recording taken from a session with Bill Colman who had worked from the shores and local harbour all his life. The short excerpts were played on a loop and told yarns of events that had happened due to particular tide and weather conditions mostly in the 1950's and 60's. when most of the boats were still under sail.
It was site specific. As the curator had decided to place the prints apart from the main instalation I used the floor surface to connect these two spaces using tape.
I also produced an information brochure to go with the installation that used information collected from various organisations and different leaflets.

Chosen Line

On the last day of this exhibition I was selling 1meter lenghts for £10.00. Unfortunatly I did not really advertise it well and Tuesdays being quiet in the gallery I did not sell. The piece is still intact.

Open studios

This year I decided to do the Oyster Festival open studio Art trail. My studio was already cleared and cleaned for the Biennalle so it was simple. I shared my space with Artist and friend Sarah Lancaster. Open studios is a great oppertunity to engage with the public as an artist. This I enjoy. It also prompted me to produce a few one off smaller prints.

Silkscreen update

I was able to lay out my silkscreen to get an idea how this project is progressing. I have twelve prints but three are framed. I added a proof screen print of one of the framed prints so see how it would work. I need to rearrange the set and possibly print an additional print to gain the effect that I am looking for. Not brilliant photographs as it was in evening light.

Extraneous variables - Whitstable Biennale Satalite program

My piece for this event was described as below.

For this, her third biennale Jennifer Wright has converted her shed studio into a space
where you are invited to play with ideas using a selection of tools.
Jennifer hopes that a connection might be made with other events that are taking place
on the Satellite programme and that a rapport might trigger a philosophical dialogue.
This installation will include a sound piece by Rachael Dickens. Entry via the garage
doors on St. Peter’s Road. It is preferable to have no more than four people in the
venue at any given time.
On the sofa: An informal chance to discuss ideas arising from events at studio 62, with
a glass of wine provided. Limited places so either book by texting: 07990580925 or take
potluck by just turning up, entry via the front door.

The public chose a hand printed card which had a word on it before they entered the space.
They entered the space alone and I left them to explore the instalation and their responses privatly. The card they could keep.

It was a really successful event from my view point. Sufficient numbers of the public came to experience my installation and all interacted with it as I had hoped. I now have a box of Extraneous variables which I hope to incorporate in a silkscreen print. But this will not be until the end of this year. I now am working towards another Access 10 exhibiton, Shifting Tides where I want to create a site and situation specific installation. I also will do a new print.

Extraneous Variables

I have just got my statment in for the Satalite program (Whitstable Biennale) in June.
This time I will convert my studio into an instalation with some interactive elements. Watch this space... Extraneous Variables is the title of the piece.

I am still working on the series of silkscreen prints. The ones in the last post are finsihed and I am now working on four other colourway prints. Another tree linocut is in progress as well.

Silkscreen prints/work in progress

I am enjoying the luxury of working on a series of prints entirely for my own development and experimentation. Hopefully when finished I will have a series of 6-8 individual prints in different colour combinations that will hang together as a series or be part of an installation. I hope that they will hang along side the prints for Beyond Reality exhibition and Fishy Busness Expo.

Again rather bad photographs of work in progress. The colours are not good and all the prints need additional work done to them.

I am also formulating an interactive instalation to be part of the Satalite programme in the Whitstable Biennalle this June. ... and I am back to doing some more lino cuts of trees; again for an installation which will be work in progress for some time...
